The Crossroads Recommendation passed in nine of the Michigan Councils on November 1, 2011.
Nearly 70% of the eligible voters cast ballots with 92% of the vote in favor.
Congratulations to all Scouters and volunteers who voted!
Comments from Area 2 President, Dr. Craig A. Younkman
Thanks to each of you who volunteered to assist our local councils in turning out the vote for this historic event! Those volunteers, along with their professional partners, carried the bulk of the message to eligible voting members; as a result, we received an overwhelming endorsement of the Crossroads Recommendation and the re-organization of the Scouting delivery model for the lower peninsula of Michigan.
So, what does this mean now for this new organization? Each of our councils will continue to operate as they have in the past – focusing on membership, manpower and the financial support to ensure we deliver quality program in every unit to youth. The Transition Board, made up of Presidents and Commissioners from the nine constituent councils meets on November 4th for their organizational meeting – that will be pivotal moving forward. In the background, the national organization has been putting in place the transition process which will facilitate a smooth, orderly, systematic movement from the existing to the new structure.
As the Transition Board makes decisions and sets direction, you will be kept informed. The website will feature a TRANSITION tab for following the changes until a new Council Area-wide website is launched. For now, we still have plenty of challenges to face and overcome as we close out 2011 and establish the baseline for the future. Your positive leadership and influence in accomplishing this is vital to serving youth through the Scouting program. Your commitment and dedication of the past holds the promise of yet greater things for them in the future. I count on your continued involvement!
